Intermodal South America 2010 exceeds exhibitors’ and visitors' expectations &8722; increasingly bringing together the market players

The torrential rain that fell on the city of São Paulo in the week when Intermodal South America 2000 was held – on April 8 to 10 this year – helped to intensify successful contacts between the Show’s visitors and exhibitors.

In the three days, approximately 44,000 visitors walked the “streets and avenues” of the São Paulo’s Transamerica Exhibition Center to see products and services presented by approximately 500 exhibitors − 10% of which were at the event for the first time.

At the opening ceremony, they heard speeches from important personalities including Brazil’s sports Minister, Paulo Sérgio Passos; Camiel Eurlings, Transport Minister of Holland; and the German Transport Minister Rainer Bomba − speaking on the current economic context and the importance of logistics in worldwide transactions.

Vital energy
This year Intermodal’s international contingent was increased, with 50 exhibitors from outside Brazil. A vital energy and disposition for negotiating new business was once again palpable in the corridors of Intermodal 2010, as a clear sign that the global economic crisis is now a thing of the past. The Show’s vigor and vitality earned praise from visitors and especially pleased exhibitors. Many of them announced important new contracts signed at the Show – as reported below.

Results and new developments
In its 15 years’ existence, Intermodal has consolidated its reputation as the largest event in the international cargo transport business in Brazil and Latin America.

“This year Intermodal exceeded itself both in the participation of new exhibitors and also in the very high level of qualification of its visitors,” said Bárbara Nogueira, manager of Intermodal 2010, organized by UBM Brazil. She says that achieving a good level of quality in the visiting public is one of the event’s major objectives.

“Intermodal has a very wide range of exhibitors, enabling clients to solve the entire process of dispatch of cargo all under the same roof. The presence of executives who have power to take decisions during the show is a vital element for consolidation of new business,” she said, adding that the feedback from exhibitors was among the best of recent years.

Logistics condominiums, shipowners
Among the new developments at Intermodal 2010, Bárbara said, was the group of new exhibitors offering logistics condominiums at strategic locations, close to major urban centers. “This year, we have seen double the participation by entrepreneurs of this type of condominium,” she said.

The return of shipowners such as Maersk and MSC was another high point of the event, she said. For the next Intermodal, Bárbara says that UBM Brazil will continue investing in all the segments that were present this year, especially sea freight, which carries more than 90% of all international cargo.
