Intermodal South America – once again a highly qualified visiting public
Results of a survey by Veris on the three days of Intermodal 2010, which brought together 44,000 professionals
The survey on the profile and satisfaction of visitors to Intermodal South America once again shows that the professionals walking the aisles of the Show and participating in its Congress not only had major decision-making power, but were satisfied with their experience at the event.
This year, the survey was carried out during the three days of the event itself, April 6−8, by the market research company Veris, which interviewed a sample of 1,000 visitors.
Visitors’ qualification and focus is undoubtedly one of the great reasons for the event’s success. A majority, 60%, of visitors are professionals working in companies that ship cargo – importing or exporting, or requiring transport for their production in the domestic market.
Attendees’ power of decision is another highlight: 81% said they decide and/or approve new purchases or orders, 11% said they recommend them. Only 8% said they do not take part in the company’s decision-making process. These percentages are the result of these professionals’ positions in their organizations: 30% are Chief Executive Officers, proprietors or Directors of their companies, while 51% are Managers or senior executives.
Confirming previous indications, Intermodal stands out for its capacity to generate visitor loyalty, and attract new professionals: Of this year’s visitors, 33% were at the Show for the first time, and 67% had visited the event at least once before.
The quest for innovations is the strongest feature of visitors to this year’s Intermodal: 59% came to learn about new solutions for their companies, and to make new contacts. And they were successful: 83% made at least 20 new contacts, and 11% made more than 20 new contacts. The percentage of visitors saying they met only existing contacts was 6%.
Another interesting figure is the proportion of visitors satisfied with the business and contacts they made at the Show: 90%.
Visitors’ areas of interest once again show how focused the event is. 45.6% of respondents expressed interest for sea freight, 43.2% for air transport and 21.9% for rail transport. Fourth-placed was interest in services and systems for national and international trade, with 21%, followed by multimodal transport, with 14.5%, and highway transport with 12.6%.
The percentage of non-Brazilian visitors increased – 5.3% in 2009 to 7.5%. Of these, the majority came from South America (51.5%), followed by Europe (21.5%), North America (19%) and Asia (4.5%) – with other continents accounting for the remaining 3.5%.
Of the 92.5% of the visitors who were Brazilian, 90% came from the Southeast, 6.5% from the South, 2.5% from the Northeast, and 0.5% from each of the Center-West and the North.
Of the professionals surveyed, 98% expressed interest in visiting the 17th Intermodal, being held on April 5−7, 2011, at the Transamerica Expo Center, in São Paulo.
